Cary psychologist Dr. Bryce Kaye is a seasoned expert in EMDR who has published in the EMDR Journal on its underlying psychophysiology. He is EMDR-certified with over 25 years of experience in treating both simple and complex trauma including dissociative disorders such as multiple personality disorders (DID). In addition, he has developed other therapies that specifically target neuroticized childhood schemas. Schemas are automatic subconscious rules that result from emotional neglect or repeated painful interactions with parents. Some of the more common schemas include: If I ask for what I want I will always be disappointed. I must always put others’ needs before my own. I must always keep busy and I feel lazy if I relax. I must always do things perfectly and I’m never good enough. These schemas may emotionally protect a child against toxic parenting but at the same time they train the child to have low self-esteem or weak boundaries later in adulthood. Relationship difficulties often result.
Two of Dr. Kaye’s newer therapies targeting schemas include Hypnotic Resource Grafting and Hypnotic Exile Integration.
