Bryce Kaye, Ph.D., Author of The Marriage First Aid Kit

Dr. BrycBryce Kayee Kaye is a psychologist and the Director of Cary Counseling Center.  He is also one of the most experienced marriage counselors in the Raleigh Cary area having counseled thousands of couples over his 40 year career. His book The Marriage First Aid Kit was published in 2008 and contains many useful tools and insights for relationship management.  Its chapters are freely available on this website as a courtesy.  Dr. Kaye obtained his license in 1979 after receiving his masters and doctorate from the University of Illinois with a specialty in personality. From 1977 through 1983 he was the Director of Outpatient Services for Wake County Alcoholism Treatment Center. While there, he authored and directed a federal research grant that developed the outpatient program. In 1984, Dr. Bryce Kaye started Cary Counseling Center which later became incorporated under the name Allied Psychological Services.  He has had years of experience in performing individual psychotherapy, marriage counseling, and substance abuse counseling. He is a certified EMDR therapist for treating trauma and is on the research committee of the EMDR International Association. Dr. Kaye has also developed several forms of individual psychotherapy based on his knowledge of personality and psychophysiology.  These include:

Miriane Portes, LCSW

Miriane PortesMiriane Portes is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, adults and families. She is EMDR certified and has extensive experience treating PTSD and other trauma related disorders. Miriane attended the University of Utah where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Social Work. After graduation, Miriane held a position at Valley Mental Health in Utah where she provided substance abuse and mental health treatment for adolescents and their families. Later, she held a position as the Clinical Director of a proctor care agency. There she trained, certified and supervised dozens of families, teaching them how care for severely emotionally disturbed children and youth. She also provided therapy for the agency’s clients and their families, supervised a team of therapists and saw her own clients in her own private practice. Miriane currently sees clients of all ages at Cary Counseling Center and she also teaches courses as an adjunct faculty member for Ashford University. She is fluent in English and Portuguese and understands Spanish. Her areas of expertise include, depression, anxiety, panic and phobias, adjustment disorders, attachment disorders, grief and loss, substance abuse, sexual abuse, trauma, dissociative disorders and relationship issues.

Brandy Templeton, LMFT

Brandy TempletonBrandy Templeton is licensed to practice Marriage and Family Therapy in the state of North Carolina and has a diverse clinical background that includes experience in a variety of settings. She graduated Cum Laude from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from The University of Southern Mississippi. Brandy’s training and experience make her a good fit for both adolescents and adults seeking services for anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders; grief and loss; adjustment disorders; anger management; co-dependent behavior; substance abuse and recovery; relational concerns; and a variety of personal growth issues that may draw an individual to counseling. Brandy has provided services to children, adolescents, and their families in a school based setting, to adults in an inpatient facility, to professionals in recovery, college students, military, and employees seeking therapy for professional and personal matters through an employee assistance program.

Deborah Riley, LCMHC

Deborah RileyDeborah Riley is licensed to practice clinical mental health counseling in the state of North Carolina. She also holds a certification in Counseling Theory. She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University and her Master’s Degree from Capella University. Deborah spent more than 20 years in the non-profit sector, working with the impoverished as well as prison populations. She has nearly 30 years of experience working in adolescent ministry, including five years in a high school environment. Additionally, Deborah has worked as a mental health counselor treating individuals, couples, and families. Her areas of training include anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, and addiction. She also is trained in marital counseling, couples counseling, and LGTBQ counseling.

Giles Christman, LMFT

Giles Christman is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) who has over 12 years of experience working with adults, families, couples, children and teens who are seeking assistance in coping with family/marital conflict, blended families, trauma/PTSD, depression/low self-worth, anxiety, anger, stress, OCD, ADHD, men’s issues, and more. Giles completed his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Brigham Young University and obtained his Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Virginia Tech.
Giles is bilingual in Spanish and English and offers trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TFCBT) and strengths-based approaches to assist clients. Giles assists families and individuals by helping them to harness their inherent abilities. He incorporates culturally competent services that instill trust and broaden understanding of who a person is and the potential they have.
